XI century Arriving in Garibaldi square, you will find on the right the ex convent of the Augustinians and the ancient Church of San Giovanni Battista, a complex and original structure that dates back to 1199 and is the work of the architects Nicola Simone and Bernardo, as attested by the inscription on the Romanesque façade. The elegant portal with Cosmatesque frame and the two stipiles resting on crouched lions recall the portal of San Nicolò. The overlying lunette with the two virile faces represent papal and imperial power. The interior has a central plan with large octagonal pillars. On the main altar the canvas Madonna del Rosario by Simone Cibori, 1618, on the left altar Madonna della Cintura attributed to Giovanni Battista Manna and on the right S.ta Rita. On the left side the 16th century baptismal font.
